The Backrooms
On May 13 2019, an anonymous 4chan user responded to a thread with this image and caption. While a simple concept initially, The Backrooms have grown significantly in scope.
It was later found in 2024 that the image was taken of the inside of a furniture store in Wisconsin that was being renovated.
As of 2026 and with a movie right around the corner, The Backrooms has made its way into popular culture thanks to Kane Parsons' short film series on youtube.
The modern concept of liminal space grew in popularity after the image of The Backrooms gained traction. However, one can find evidence of this idea in older works such as Stanley Kubrick's 'The Shining' and The Twilight Zone.
